You may also be interested in

months of a prior Australian application, or an initial
application, you may:

Directly file a patent
application/s in each convention country
desired, while claiming priority to your initial
Australian application, or
File a PCT (Patent
Cooperation Treaty) Application, which reserves
your rights while buying you time to explore the
commercial aspects of your invention. In time,
if requested, a patent in each of the designated
countries can be filed while claiming priority
back to your initial application.
